The word "scaffolding" can carry different meanings depending on the context, so it can have various connotations depending on the area in which it is used.

The most common scaffolding systems that come to mind when scaffolding is mentioned in the construction sector are as follows:

a- Fixed scaffolding: This system consists of uprights, horizontal beams and vertical fasteners rising from the ground. Fixed scaffolding is generally preferred in large and long-term projects. Fixed scaffolding offers a high strength, durable and stable structure. However, the installation and dismantling of fixed scaffolding is laborious and time-consuming. Also, fixed scaffolding takes up space and is difficult to transport.

b- Movable scaffolding: This system consists of uprights, beams and fasteners mounted on a platform with wheels or rails. Movable scaffolding is preferred for small and short-term projects. Movable scaffolding offers a flexible, practical and easy to erect and dismantle structure. However, movable scaffolding carries the risk of swaying when working at height. Also, movable scaffolding is sensitive to ground conditions and requires a smooth surface.

c- Suspended scaffolding: This system consists of platforms suspended from the top or roof of the building. Suspended scaffolding is especially preferred for exterior works. Suspended scaffolding offers a ground-independent, adjustable and easily transportable structure. However, the installation and dismantling of suspended scaffolding requires expertise. Also, suspended scaffolding is affected by weather conditions such as wind and precipitation.

Selection of Scaffolding Systems

When deciding which scaffolding system to use in construction works, the following factors should be considered:

1- Scale, duration and budget of the project
2- Structure, ground and location of the area to be studied
3- Working load, speed and safety
4- Installation, dismantling and maintenance of scaffolding system
5- Cost, quality and performance of the scaffolding system

Regional Scaffolding Preferences

The region where wedge flanged scaffolding is predominantly common among scaffolding systems; Mediterranean Region. (Antalya, Burdur, Adana, Isparta, Denizli...) The region where H type scaffolding is predominantly common: Marmara Region, (Istanbul, Kocaeli,...) we can say. Of course, every type of scaffolding is used in every region. Since Ankara is located in the centre, both scaffolding systems are used intensively.

This regional habit in scaffolding systems may change a little when products with safety scaffolding certificate are used. Because now scaffolding systems are an expensive product in terms of initial investment cost. In other words, the price of the system will come to the fore rather than the region where it is located.

SCAFFING ;

While it used to be one of the most insignificant items for constructions, today its position is very different. Now, scaffolding is a sensitive issue that can cause the sealing of constructions and should be emphasised meticulously.
